After winning the 1979 Winston Cup Championship, Richard Petty struggled early in the following season and broke through with a last lap pass, overtaking Benny Parsons, to win the Music City 420 in Nashville, Tennessee. This race helped to set the momentum going forward as Richard worked towards his historic 200th win.
