In 1981 NASCAR allowed teams to run, at the opening race at Riverside International Raceway in California, the larger, big bodied, stock cars for one last time before downsizing to the smaller, current cars at the Daytona 500 two weeks later. NASCAR Hall of Famer Bobby Allison went on to win this final race in the large, famous, Monte Carlo at this historic road course.
